Inside the Minnesota Twins Clubhouse

Minnesota Twins team photographer Brace Hemmelgarn talks about one of his most important responsibilities heading into each homestand.

The photo wall began in 2019 as a way to showcase our photography within the clubhouse throughout the season. Each homestand, we update the wall with five new photos that look back on key moments or fun shots from the previous week.

After adding ‘ballpark artwork’ to my job duties back in 2018, we had been looking at ways to incorporate updated artwork from the current season and landed on the ‘photo wall’ concept. Located in the entryway to the clubhouse, it was meant to be a fun, and current, addition to the clubhouse artwork that the guys look at when they enter every day.

Printing internally, the 13”x19” shots are hung usually the day before or the morning of the team returning home. Choosing between the best photos and also trying to make sure we showcase the entirety of the team can be a challenge, but also forces myself and our photography intern to shoot differently at times in order to put some different guys on the wall.

It has become a fun tradition within the clubhouse and even some competition for ‘making the wall’ week in and week out. With baseball being a long season, it gives the guys something to look at when entering the clubhouse returning from a road trip and also challenges us as photographers to make photographs we are proud to showcase on the wall each week.
